Long-form conversations, shorter encounters, and intergenerational discussions about how politics and society are actually lived.
The Middle Ground is the YouTube channel of Thinking in Place.
Its name is not an appeal to political centrism or balance for its own sake.
Nor does it seek an imagined neutral position between rival camps.
The middle ground is the more demanding terrain on which political and social
life is actually lived: between ideals and practices, institutions and
improvisation, moral claims and social constraints.
The channel features extended conversations with scholars, writers,
artists, and public thinkers. It also creates space for shorter
encounters across generations, especially with younger Indians whose
experiences of education, work, technology, mobility, and citizenship
are reshaping the country.
The aim is not to manufacture agreement. Disagreement can help us ask
better questions and see what our preferred positions leave out.
The Middle Ground resists both frenetic point-scoring and the false
comfort of certainty.
